A Celebration Worth Sharing

Rev. Dr. Jim Mentzer

Rev. Dr. Jim Mentzer

United Methodist Foundation, Inc. is delighted to announce that Rev. Jim Mentzer, our Director of Planned Giving, is now the Reverend Doctor James G. Mentzer. After several years of course work and research, he was recently awarded the Doctor of Ministry degree by Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.

Jim joined the staff of the Foundation in July of 2006. Since then, he has made significant contributions to the success of the stewardship ministry of the United Methodist Foundation by strengthening relationships between UMF and the member churches, agencies, and institutions of the North Carolina Annual Conference.

Key to the United Methodist Foundation’s success as a stewardship ministry is its ability to be in a connected relationship – a faith partnership – with the local church. To this end, Jim has offered his past professional knowledge and expertise as a financial consultant, his strong faith foundation as an ordained elder of our Conference, and his wonderful demeanor that quickly puts others at ease and encourages confidence in his advice.

When asked how it felt to have finally received his doctorate, Jim replied: “It’s still strange hearing someone call me ‘Dr. Mentzer’ – my first inclination is to turn around to see who just walked into the room. This degree is certainly not required to become a United Methodist pastor. However, it certainly falls within a Wesleyan understanding of ministry which values education and calls upon pastors to continually seek to learn after ordination.”

Please join with me, the staff and Board of Directors of your United Methodist Foundation in extending our combined congratulations and appreciation to the Reverend Doctor James G. Mentzer.
